ARE YOU FHREE?

Are you Full Human Rights-Experience Educating?

If there is freedom to opt in and opt out – say ‘yes please’, and equally easily, ‘no thank you’, and there is no force or pressure, only personal empowerment, then the answer is probably YES.

If there is any force or pressure to learn particular content, meet certain goals, pass tests, the answer is probably NO. If there is force or pressure to learn with particular people, in ways, at times, and in places that are not freely chosen, then the answer is probably NO.

If options are limited by circumstances, perhaps you are still FHREE. If options are limited by ‘authority’, this is not FHREE.

BEING GIVEN A CHOICE BETWEEN LIMITED OPTIONS IS NOT THE SAME AS FHREEDOM

Most people don’t yet know that it is possible to be FHREE. It can be hard to understand at first, so it can help to do some research. Here are some places where you can read/listen/watch to find out more.

Here is a 4 minute INTRODUCTION to the Alliance for Self-Directed Education (ASDE), an organisation that promotes the form of SDE that is synonymous with FHREE.

‘Sudbury’ ‘schools’ are a good example of FHREE. Here is a 7minute EXPLANATION of the way these have functioned – for over 50 successful years. And here is a delightful tour of the Arts and Ideas campus and philosophy that gives a more textured look at the Sudbury concept.

Here is an excellent TED talk by Ramin Farhangi, available in FRENCH or ENGLISH
